Callaway Gardens offers FREE admission in Jan & Feb

It may be winter but there are lots of fun things for families to do and see at Callaway Gardens this month and next.  The best part?  It is all free!

Families can visit the warm, tropical Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center and see 1,000 tropical butterflies, representing more than 50 different species, flutter freely through the air. Tropical plants provide an oasis for these magnificent creatures in one of North America's largest, glass-enclosed tropical conservatories. The award-winning film, On Wings of Wonder, plays continuously on two wide-screen monitors in the center's multi-purpose room, explaining the life cycle of butterflies.

Children of all ages will enjoy seeing the amazing free-flight Birds of Prey Show.  Callaway Gardens is one of the few locations that features a live raptor show daily. There are approximately one dozen birds in the program, and at each show, three to five of the raptors appear, so no two shows are ever alike.

Nestled in the woodlands on the edge of Mountain Creek Lake, The Virginia Callaway Discovery Center
actually includes several facilities in one, all devoted to enhancing the harmony between man and earth.

A staffed information desk and interactive kiosks provide guests an overview of all there is to see and do in the Callaway Gardens' 13,000 acres. Inside an orientation theater, the film Time & the Gardens plays continuously, depicting the evolution of Callaway Gardens. The Center also houses an education wing, lecture hall, museum/exhibit hall, the Discovery Gift Shop, and Discovery Café. Areas for artwork and exhibits are available throughout the building.

Families can visit the special photography exhibit now through April 3, 2001.  Explore America along with Patsy Epperson as her journeys take her to places both well known and unknown.  From the beach to the mountains, from a forest to a city street, the natural world provides the backdrop.  Through her photographs Patsy hopes to inspire others to take advantage of the beauty that surrounds us all.

Visitors also enjoy the John A. Sibley Horticultural CenterIt's the perfect garden because something's always in bloom at the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center. This one-of-a-kind garden/greenhouse encompasses five acres of native and exotic plants within its tropical conservatory, sub-Mediterranean Conservatory, sculpture garden containing "Dove of Peace" Carrata Marble Sculpture, fern grotto, main conservatory and outdoor garden. An exhilarating 22-foot indoor waterfall, "Partners in Time" bronze sculpture and spectacular seasonal displays make any visit special.

Families will also enjoy the many walking and biking trails available at Callaway Gardens.  Bicycles are available for rent, or you can bring your own.  If you haven't visited Callaway Gardens recently, now is the time.
