Maybe not. But it does provide shoppers with a unique ability to get paid to shop. Literally.
For instance, I recently received $200 worth of spa treatments in exchange for providing information about the technicians and treatments I experienced. Imagine receiving a therapeutic massage free of charge, in exchange for being able to write an accurate report about the visit. The massage, followed by a facial, was relaxing, enjoyable, and heavenly; especially, since it didn’t cost me a thing.
After my visit to the spa, I made a quick stop at a local burger restaurant for a great burger, fries and drink. All paid for by my mystery shopping. Relaxed and full, I returned home to enter my results. The spa scored excellently. The burger restaurant did as well. All in all, my “free” day was quite enjoyable. All it cost me was a little time afterwards entering the results (maybe thirty minutes to fill out both reports). Not bad for a day’s work.
My family is accustomed to the free pizza, fast food, casual and fine dining restaurants, and clothing shops that I complete. It seems that we rarely have to pay for items we would be purchasing anyway.
Have I gotten rich mystery shopping? Of course not. Have I saved money, gotten free products, and earned a little extra money? Absolutely! Do I love it? You bet!
